The imposing building – one of a group of historic structures still standing in Flushing – served as a town hall from its early days during the Civil War-era until just before the turn of the century, when Flushing became a part of New York City and the building was turned into a courthouse. Over the years it has hosted a police precinct, a jazz club, a bank, a library and a dinner club before becoming a landmarked building in 1967.
Flushing Town Hall has changed hands and served a range of community needs over the years, and now in its 160th year, it serves as a cornerstone for arts and culture in Flushing, Queens. With a multicultural lens reflecting community members with cultural links to China, Korea, the West Indies, Latin America, and other regions, Flushing Town Hall hosts a variety of art exhibitions and performances in this spectacular, multi-use space.
