Introducing the Untapped Cities Austin City Spotlight

Untapped Cities’ Digital Media Strategist (and former Austinite) Alley Lyles has carefully curated a list of must-sees that may not be found in your conventional travel guide with contributions from Austin-based blogger Hipstercrite and illustrator Jackie Evangelisti. In our Austin City Spotlight, Untapped Cities looks to uncover more of what makes Austin tick, providing readers a guide to this bustling city when they visit during one of the many upcoming festivals in 2013 or at any other time.

Austin is lovingly referred to by Texans as “ATX” and branded as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” People flock to Austin due to its low cost of living, burgeoning technology scene, growing film industry and abundance of music venues. Facebook and Apple, and a plethora of technology start-ups, have opened offices within the past few years in an attempt to tap into the locale’s creative culture. Austin City Limits Music Festival, Formula 1 Races and the South by Southwest Conferences draw locals and visitors year-around.

The Untapped Cities spotlight on Austin includes:

  • A Look Into The Cathedral of Junk, a “found art” 30-foot tall construction in Vince Hannenmenn’s Backyard
  • An Interview with Meredith Powell, Executive Director of Art Alliance Austin
  • A Look at Curb Service, a South Congress Street Fashion Boutique in a Trailer
  • A Feature on Hotel Saint Cecilia, an Eclectic Bunaglow-Style Hotel with Décor Inspired by Local Artists
  • A “Best Of” Piece Written by Austin-Based Writer Hipstercrite
  • A Conversation Between Two Mustaches by Austin-Based Illustrator Jackie Evangelisti
  • 24 Hours in Austin, A Guide on How to Explore Austin in a day

After hearing from readers who enjoyed our previous pieces on the East Austin Studio Tour and how Austinitites “Keep Austin Weird,” we will deliver fresh content on this exciting city. The contributors are writers who know the local cultural scene well and call Austin home. If you have input on something you wish to see in the future, please feel free to let us know.
