Tour of Rooftop Reds, world’s first commercially viable rooftop vineyard
The weather is going to be stellar this weekend and we’ve got a bunch of tours this weekend to some neat “untapped” destinations in New York City. While our subway tours are sold out already, there’s still space on our exploration of the Remnants of Penn Station on Sunday and our second tour and tasting at Rooftop Reds, the world’s first commercially viable rooftop vineyard, on Saturday. Here are more details and why you should join us!

Justin Rivers, one of our Untapped Cities tour guides, was the playwright of the Off-Broadway play The Eternal Space, all about the demolition of the original Penn Station. He spent years researching the grand McKim, Mead & White station, designed by ill-fated architect Stanford White and worked with photographers that documented the demolition first hand. We built this tour of the Remnants of Penn Station, which covers a dozen pieces of the original station that are still visible, together with Justin. Hundreds of New Yorkers have spent their afternoons in Penn Station with us learning about the full story of the building and the train system, touching architecture most people assume has been lost. As one of our tour goers commented in a 5 star Tripadvisor review, “This tour gave me a whole new perspective on Penn [Station]….I found some relics of the Old Penn that make traveling through the station every day better.” As another New Yorker writes of a recent tour, the tour is “Deeply informative, ” and “it’s hard to imagine getting a more vivid and knowledgeable tour of Penn Station then the one that I experienced.” Our next tour is this Sunday, June 5th.

Rooftop Reds is a truly exciting addition to the urban rooftop farm landscape, showcasing the innovations New York City has to offer. This tour and wine tasting at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, an experience exclusive to Untapped Cities, is led by the founder of Rooftop Reds. Learn about the unique irrigation system, where the grapes and soil come from, Rooftop Reds’ role inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard and taste some of the wines from the Rooftop Reds label. While sipping wine, lounge on the hammocks take in the view this Saturday, June 4th.
