We have a great set of behind-the-scenes tours coming up this week, with our newly launched Secrets of Central Park and Art in the NYC Subway walking tours to the return of our Tour and Wine Tasting at Rooftop Reds. Art in the NYC Subway Walking Tour: Saturday, May 13th at 11am

The New York City subway system is the largest in the world and with hundreds of art installations scattered throughout its 430 stations, it’s also one of the world’s largest public art galleries. Join Untapped Cities tour guide Justin Rivers as he takes you on an in-depth tour of the subway art tapestry, and weaved together to tell the complete history of the NYC commuter from Fulton’s first steamboat to the newly minted Second Avenue subway riders. Co-conceptualized by artist Aaron Asis, it’s a perfect compliment to our popular Underground Subway Tour or a fun stand alone for art, history and subway lovers alike.

400 Years of History in 1 Mile Walking Tour: Saturday, Saturday, May 13th at 2pm

Take a walk in the footsteps of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, revel in beautiful architecture across four centuries, hear stories of heroes and rogues that have shaped our history as a country and as a city. Our newest tour, 400 Years in 1 Mile, looks at the history of New York City by walking a mile long portion of Lower Broadway. In this area of Lower Manhattan, you can find examples of streets and structures that date from our Dutch past to the 21st century. Architectural and technological breakthroughs from all period of the city’s history can be found here.

Secrets of Central Park Walking Tour: Sunday, May 14th at 11:00am

Did you know that Central Park was once the site of a former African-American village? Or that it was previously home to an infamous casino, where alcohol flowed throughout the Prohibition? For almost 160 years, Central Park has been the green heart of the city, serving as a pastoral haven for New Yorkers and visitors alike. Even so, it still holds many secrets that have yet to be discovered. On this walking tour, kicking off on May 14th, we’ll explore the history behind some of its best-loved and hidden sites. Learn about the genesis, design, and evolution of the immense green space, while uncovering its many outrageous happenings, scandals and more. We have one ticket left for this event!

Secrets of Central Park Walking Tour

Tour and Wine Tasting at Rooftop Reds: Sunday, May 14th at 12:30pm

Did you know the world’s first commercially viable rooftop vineyard is hidden within the Brooklyn Navy Yard? Untapped Cities will be bringing readers on a special wine tasting and tour at Rooftop Reds, led by one of its founders who will share their knowledge of winemaking.

Within the 14,800 square foot rooftop, you will see a unique urban planter system that is the first of its kind, developed with Cornell University and Finger Lakes industry leaders. As an added bonus: all guests will get 20% off purchases of Rooftop Reds wines. Get in on this experience early, as the first harvest will be taking place in October 2017. Take in an amazing view, lounge in a hammock, and sip on Rooftop Red wines in our tours. Please note that the wine served on the rooftop is from Rooftop Reds partners in the Finger Lakes until the first harvest off the Navy Yard rooftop are ready!
