Like many other destinations in New York City, The High Line closed temporarily in March during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, at noon, it will reopen again with limited capacity and more controlled pedestrian flow in order to maintain social distancing in line with government guidelines.
The High Line will be open daily, seven days a week from 12 PM to 8 PM. The only entrances for the public, apart from those with mobility access needs, will be at Gansevoort Street. Pedestrians can only walk north, in one direction but can exit at 14th, 16th, 20th, and 23rd Street exists which will be exit-only. The number of people on the High Line will be controlled with advance reservations with timed-entry and a limited number of walk-up passes.
A new video released by The High Line shows visitors during a recent neighborhood preview accessing and walking the High Line, along with the new social distancing signage and protocols. Signs offer advice on how to protect yourself others, circles on the floor and in the seating areas in the High Line’s green color show what six feet apart looks like. The plantings are lush and some of the art from last season is still up.
