Virtual Tour: Remnants of New Netherland in Jersey City

Join us for a tour of the remnants of New Netherlands in Jersey City! In this half hour interactive walk with Untapped New York tour guide Mandy Edgecombe, we will learn the history of the Bergen Square, a plot of land mapped out by Jacques Cortelyou in 1660, the surveyor-general of New Amsterdam under Peter Stuyvesant, which is still there today! Jersey City has a surprising amount of important colonial remnants and they are often overlooked. We will pass by the oldest continuous site of a school house in the United States, a cemetery that was a part of the original township of Bergen, and a house from the early 18th century that still stands where a famous meeting between George Washington and General Lafayette occurred!
