New Film Shows How Art Brings Life to Green-Wood Cemetery
Discover how the living and the dead make Green-Wood Cemetery a vibrant part of NYCs cultural scene!
In connection with plans to convert the historic Sea View Hospital campus on Staten Island into the first heath-focused mixed-use development in New York City, the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has released a drone video of the 180 acre facility. For preservationists, this should be great news, as it will spur the rehabilitation of many of the at-risk buildings on the site and provided great access for the public to this historic amenity. The hope is to revive a public health legacy here at a hospital, opened in 1913, that developed the cure for tuberculosis, transforming the site into a place to treat the health challenges people face today.
The Sea View Healthy Community aims to integrate medical care, housing, retail, community facilities, and open space in a setting designed to prevent illnesses and promote healthy lifestyles. Sea View hospital was where the first clinical trials of hydrazides to place. The drug ultimately led to a widespread cure of the tuberculosis and in its heyday, the hospital served over 2,000 patients.
