The centennial celebrations of Grand Central Terminal and the City’s proposed up-zoning of East Midtown present an opportune time to re-think the future of Grand Central and its surrounding neighborhood. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10: Why I love skyscrapers talk by Christoph Ingenhoven, the founding principal of ingenhoven architects, a Dusseldorf-based firm with an increasingly international practice. FRIDAY, APRIL 12: David Zwirner is pleased to present an exhibition of early work by the artist Richard Serra. Dating from 1966 to 1971, the works on view, drawn from museum and private collections, represent the beginning of the artist’s innovative, process-oriented experiments with nontraditional materials, such as vulcanized rubber, neon, and lead, in addition to key early examples of his work in steel. Also featured will be a program of the artist’s films from this period. David Zwirner, 537 West 20th Street. FREE.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13: Step inside the Gatsby at an Historic Gold Coast mansion with Sidetour. As the former curator of the Coe Hall Mansion and its grounds, the Planting Fields Arboretum, Marianne knows the property inside and out and is particularly fascinated with the stories it reveals about the everyday lives of the upper class families who built, vacationed and entertained in these homes. Meet Marianne on the gorgeous Olmsted Brothers-designed grounds of Coe Hall to learn about building design and landscape features common to Gatsby-era estates, and what is unique about this one. Then walk room by room through the beautifully furnished mansion to discover the everyday routines of the family who dwelled there—albeit only on weekends, and only in spring and fall.
