THURSDAY, AUGUST 30: Join Underground Eats and Wine Evangelist, Jonny Cigar, of The Noble Rot for the third annual Cabernet Day celebratory event with food pairings by foodista Cathy Erway from the blog, “Not Eating Out in New York” and author of the book, “The Art of Eating In.” This special evening will feature five rich, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc wines, hand-selected by the man himself, Mr. Cigar. Swirl, sniff, and taste as Cigar teaches you about wine and the “trials and tribulations of being Cabernet.” While wine may be the star of the evening, the food pairings by Erway will surely not be overlooked. Her five-course menu of Asian-inspired dishes will go perfectly with each glass. Please note: The location of this party will be emailed to those attending 24 hours before the event.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 31: Whether it’s only Folklore, or whether the moon truly turns blue, Millbrook Winery is presenting an evening celebrating the Blues with BBQ, wine and dancing. The aptly named, French Cookin’ Blues Band (regulars at Lucille’s Grill and B.B. Kings) will serenade attendees and the night away as the Blue Moon shines down on a delicious buffet of Tri Tip Roast, BBQ Chicken, Babyback Ribs, Corn on the Cob and a slew of other savory and sweet dishes. 6-10pm. $70 per person (plus tax) OR $65 per person for Case Club members and includes: the buffet, band, two glasses of Millbrook wine and gratuity. Additional ‘wine by the glass’ will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Reservations are required by or before Monday August 27. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1: Municipal Art Society tour of Brooklyn Bridge Park with architectural historian and author, Matt Postal. In the 19th and early 20th century, Brooklyn’s waterfront was crowded with commercial activity. Now replaced by a lovely new park and forgotten by many New Yorkers, we’ll discuss how multiple ferry lines, trolley routes, and freight facilities came together to shape the river’s edge, with stops to consider how the park’s design recalls the area’s history, as well as the architectural development of Fulton Street, the soon to be redeveloped Empire Stores, and the former Squibb Pharmaceutical plant. 11am. $20 / $15 Members. Buy tickets here.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2: KeiStar Productions present What the Funk?! with DJ Spinna & Rich Medina playing a tribute to James Brown and Fela Kuti at Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleeker Street. 10pm-4am. $15 in advance. Buy tickets here.
