Our curated events picks for this week: SCOPE, The Armory Show and The (UN)FAIR Art Show Shake-up.

MONDAY, MARCH 4: To coincide with the exhibition Marcel Proust and Swann’s Way: 100th Anniversary, Antoine Compagnon, Blanche W. Knopf Professor of French and Comparative Literature, Columbia University, and Professor at the Collège de France, Paris, will talk about the pleasures of reading and rereading Proust, and discuss the experience of first and consecutive readings of Swann’s Way, for both non-scholarly enjoyment and academic study. 6:30pm at the Morgan Library & Museum, 225 Madison Avenue. $15 / $10 for members / FREE for students.

TUESDAY, MARCH 5: The Society for the Advancement of Social Studies presents The History of Booze. As you may have guessed, we are pretty big fans of booze and booze-related endeavors here at S.A.S.S., so we have teamed up with the good folks at Urban Oyster Tours to bring you a lovely evening of lectures about the history of hooch. Urban Oyster has lent some of their finest tour guides to educate us upon the topics of beer, wine, and whiskey. Plus we’ll be playing an ancient drinking game for a chance to win tickets to Urban Oyster’s new spring waterfront tour. D.J. Kate Pilgrim is the hair of the dog that bit you, and as always will be the soundtrack to S.A.S.S. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6: Widely regarded for its influential voice in the emerging art market, SCOPE New York 2013 will feature 55 international galleries alongside 20 Breeder Program galleries, selected by curatorial panel. Hailing from four continents and eighteen countries, SCOPE exhibitors represent the best and brightest contemporary work from emerging and mid-career artists. SCOPE New York opens to Press and VIP’s on Wednesday, March 6 with the First View benefit and will run March 7 – 10, 2013. Alongside our featured galleries, SCOPE New York will also present cutting-edge special programming, collector tours and special events that feature innovative work across multiple creative industries, including fashion, film, music and performance. Also on Wednesday: THE(UN)FAIR Art Show Shake-Up Near Armory. For the first (and last) time, almost 100 artworks, artists, and performers gather in a 19th century Hell’s Kitchen building for a guerilla-style art show during Armory Arts Week, brought together by a New York City curator/artist team. Called THE(UN)FAIR, the free, multi-faceted art event includes paintings, installations, performance art, music, and…elevator comedians. Wednesday-Sunday 11am-8pm at 500 West 52nd Street, 3rd Floor. FREE.

THURSDAY, MARCH 7: The Armory Show, a leading international contemporary and modern art fair and one of the most important annual art events in New York, takes place every March on Piers 92 & 94 in central Manhattan. The Armory Show is devoted to showcasing the most important artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries. In its fifteen years the fair has become an international institution, combining a selection of the world’s leading galleries with an exceptional program of arts events and exhibitions throughout New York during the celebrated Armory Arts Week. FRIDAY, MARCH 8: Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation Alumni Association invites you to the annual Alumni Forum, featuring a panel discussion led by global thought leaders from various disciplines on the relationship between climate change, extreme weather events and the built environment. 6pm at the New York Times Center, 242 West 41st Street. Open to alumni, students, faculty and staff only. Registration required.

SATURDAY, MARCH 9: Join OHNY and Docomomo US for the 2nd Annual Modern Architecture & Design Scavenger Hunt. SUNDAY, MARCH 10: The folks at Sketchy’s would like to take you back to a simpler time, a better time: Where men poured scotch in big lowball glasses and women spilled out of little black dresses. So we’ve teamed up with the original Femme Fatale, Amber Ray, and her personal private dick, Blue Morris, to bring you to a time of dreamy gals and drunken gumshoes, back stabbings and bullet bras: and we’re not gonna be stopped by the minor fact that this time never actually existed either! So come on down to the Slipper Room for Dr. Sketchy’s tribute to pulp: and Dial D for Drinking, Drawing, and a Damn fine evening. 4-7pm at The Slipper Room, 167 Orchard Street (at Stanton Street).
