TUESDAY, JUNE 4:  Atlas Obscura launches the Wanderlust School of Transgressive Placemaking with a discussion of Broken Legs, Surveillance Cameras and Black Mold: Safety & Security Off the Grid. The June 4th installment will focus on staying physically safe and mostly out of trouble. Speakers:Mark Krawczuk & Annetta Black, with Myric Lehner Moderated by Ida C. Benedetto & N.D. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5: Currently ongoing until September is the Dinosaur Safari at the Bronx Zoo. THURSDAY, JUNE 6: After an extraordinarily successful first year, the Blue Note Jazz Festival will return from June 1 – 30, 2012 with over fifty shows throughout New York City. Tonight, choose from the High & Mighty Brass Band, Jerry Douglas, Eddie Palmiere Salsa Orchestra, Bob James & David Sanborn featuring Steve Gadd, and Tommy Malone of the Subdudes. 8pm at various locations. FRIDAY, JUNE 7: Brooklyn Film Festival. This year’s theme, MAGNETIC, is a study on all those invisible forces that bring people together or push them apart. It is also our personal invitation to read between the lines while questioning the motives behind. MAGNETIC will be a showcase of smart, multi-layered, deceiving, manipulative, yet unseen films coming from all continents in search of a Brooklyn breakthrough. SATURDAY, JUNE 8: FIGMENT is an explosion of creative energy. It’s a free, annual celebration of participatory art and culture where everything is possible. For one weekend each summer, it transforms Governors Island into a large-scale collaborative artwork – and then it’s gone. 10am-6pm on Governor’s Island. FREE. SUNDAY, JUNE 9: The Big Apple BBQ Block Party. This weekend long event boasts award-winning barbecue and Southern-inspired fare from the country’s top pitmasters, live performances from emerging and established musical artists, and daily seminars that include cooking demonstrations from top chefs. 11am-6pm at Madison Square Garden.
