Vintage 1970s Photos Show Lost Sites of NYC's Lower East Side
A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
A little breath of fresh air with a positive message landed on the rooftop of the James Hotel in Soho last week. The LOVE sculpture is one California-based artist Laura Kimpton‘s Monumental Word pieces, widely photographed at Burning Man. The collection includes words like “BELIEVE”, “LIVE”, “EGO” and “DREAM”.
Last year, LOVE was inside the private dining club Omar’s on West 9th Street, where Kimpton met David Rabin who owns the Jimmy bar at the James Hotel. He invited Kimpton to move the sculpture to the roof deck of the James Hotel near the swimming pool, just outside the bar. Kimpton liked the juxtaposition of LOVE seen together with the Freedom Tower in an outside location and has said that she sees herself as the messenger of love in a time when there is so much hate in the world.
