Vintage 1970s Photos Show Lost Sites of NYC's Lower East Side
A quest to find his grandmother's birthplace led Richard Marc Sakols on a mission to capture his changing neighborhood on film.
Women in New York City have played a major role in shaping the city’s art scene. At an upcoming talk presented by the Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts, art historian Elizabeth Thompson Colleary will explore the history of the Modern Art scene through the eyes of its female patrons and artists. From Upper East Side collectors like Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, who founded some of the nation’s leading modern and contemporary art museums, to Villagers like Jo Hopper, Lee Krasner and Helen Frankenthaler, you will see how the work and vision of New York’s Modern women helped shape the 20th century art world and encouraged Americans to see the world in a whole new way. If you are an Untapped Cities Insider, you can attend this talk at the New York School of Interior Design for free! Not a member yet?
