Red Hook: Brooklyn Mafia Ground Zero - Book Talk
Join authors Frank DiMatteo and Michael Benson for a trip to the underbelly of Red Hook history!
Tomorrow evening, ReThinkNYC will host the conference PLAN 2050: Penn Station & A Post-Moses New York, an event Untapped Cities is co-sponsoring as a follow-up to the popular Summit for the Future of Penn Station last fall. ReThinkNYC is a architectural and transit think tank run by Jim Venturi and the conference focuses on its plan to “rethink” how the regional transit system works. One major idea is to convert Penn Station from an end station to a through station, forming part of one unified trunk line. This idea would involve creating new transit hubs outside of Manhattan to facilitate transfers, reconfiguring the system to function like how users now use it, rather than how it was planned which focused primarily on movement into and out of Manhattan.
These two videos from ReThinkNYC show what can be done from a regional perspective and within Penn Station, which can be reconfigured internally while allowing for new architectural ideas to flourish above ground.
