Descend below the world’s largest Gothic cathedral to explore the crypt beneath St. John the Divine!
- Dive into the architectural history and get a close look at the architectural foundations of the world’s largest Gothic cathedral
- View a unique spiral staircase built by the Guastavino Company
- Learn about the Cathedral’s earliest church services and the chapel that was built to house them
- Explore the studios and art storage that operate out of the Cathedral’s crypt today
About the event:
Descend down a historic Guastavino Staircase into the crypt of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Explore the site of the Cathedral’s first church services, dive into the architectural styles that hold up the Cathedral overhead, and learn about how this rarely-seen space has been used throughout the Cathedral’s history.
Please note: This program requires the use of some steep stairs and walking on uneven flooring. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Must be 12 years of age or older.

How many tickets can I reserve?

The event is sold out?
In-person Insider tours may have limited capacity and are booked on a first come, first served basis.
But don’t worry! Sometimes spots open up closer to the event date if there are cancellations. We also repeat our most popular events when possible so you will have another opportunity to join us. There are also multiple other members-only events weekly that you can join in!
What if I need to cancel?
If you cancel more than 48 hours ahead of the scheduled event, you will receive a 100%. When canceled less than 48 hours before the start of your tour, you will receive a gift card that can be used on any future events. Please be courteous to your fellow Insiders and let us know if you can no longer attend so we can offer your spot to another person.
