About the event:
Join artist Adrienne Ottenberg for an exclusive tour of her exhibit at the Museum at Eldridge Street, titled On the Lower East Side: Twenty-Eight Remarkable Women…and One Scoundrel.
Throughout the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue, Ottenberg’s portraits printed on silk or cotton banners float over a tableau of street maps depicting the Lower East Side at the turn of the century. On this tour, follow the artist through her exhibit, and meet the 29 women featured in her work.
On the Lower East Side: Twenty-Eight Remarkable Women…and One Scoundrel will be on view Sunday, December 3, 2023 through May 5, 2024.
About Adrienne Ottenberg
Adrienne Ottenberg is an artist who finds that the places we live in every day are full of meaning and emotion. She hopes to reveal a fresh perspective on the familiar. For this exhibition, Ottenberg worked with watercolor, colored pencil, ink, and digital media, resulting in individual collage prints. The banners are introspective portraits of each figure, inspired by the neighborhood and how it has been mapped.
Ottenberg lives and works in New York City. After years of editorial and book illustration, she found herself creating maps, and pursued an MA in geography to learn computer mapping. She is inspired by historical maps and how we create and bring meaning to the map of our own lives.

In-person Insider tours may have limited capacity and are booked on a first come, first served basis.
But don’t worry! Sometimes spots open up closer to the event date if there are cancellations. We also repeat our most popular events when possible so you will have another opportunity to join us. There are also multiple other members-only events weekly that you can join in!
What if I need to cancel?
If you cancel more than 48 hours ahead of the scheduled event, you will receive a 100%. When canceled less than 48 hours before the start of your tour, you will receive a gift card that can be used on any future events. Please be courteous to your fellow Insiders and let us know if you can no longer attend so we can offer your spot to another person.
