The Red Bull Music Festival has finally returned, bringing a month-long program of unforgettable experiences that push the boundaries of what music festivals traditionally offer. Now in its 6th season, the 2018 RBMF will take place from May 3rd to 25th this year — and Untapped Cities Insiders will get the chance to attend truly unique shows in two of New York City’s most offbeat venues: the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine and at Deno’s Wonder Wheel on Coney Island.
Kicking off the season on May 4th is musician, singer and producer, John Maus, who will present his “visceral and haunting take on synth-pop” at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park, where he will create a musical score for five rides. Then on May 9th, join renowned modern classical composer and sound artist Tristan Perich for the premiere of his most ambitious project to date inside the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. Perich will present a piece for 50 violins and 50 self-built 1-bit speakers in an investigation of spaces that melds together the physical world with the abstract world of computational electronics.
DATE: John Maus: Friday, May 4th, 2018 (6pm doors; event ends at midnight) | Tristan Perich: Wednesday, May 9th (7pm doors; event ends at 10:30pm)
