Explore the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art with Executive Director Q&A
Explore the Jacques Marchais Tibetan Art Museum and meet the museum's Executive Director Meg Ventrudo. Insiders will take a guided tour of the Library and Gallery space, hear an introduction about the founder of the Museum, Jacques Marchais, and the learn the history of the museum buildings. You will get to explore artifacts in the collection that come from Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia, Northern China, and beyond. Insiders will also get to take part in a Q & A session with Executive Director, Meg Ventrudo. The Museum was founded by Jacques Marchais, one of the earliest collectors of Tibetan art in the United States, in 1945. Marchais never traveled to Tibet, but acquired items through auctions and estate sales. She would often keep the best pieces for herself and sell other objects in the gallery as a means to continuously build her collection, which eventually grew to over one thousand objects. The collection includes sculpture, ritual objects, musical instruments, thangkas or scroll paintings and furniture. The objects are primarily from Tibet, Nepal, northern China, and Mongolia, and a few items are from Southeast Asia.
