We had AJ for this tour and he was fabulous! Perfect combination of “transit geek-storyteller-actor-true New Yorker.” I know “a bit” of the history and backstory of the subway and learned a few new things today!
One of the top walking tours in my experience Ben made the Underground Subway Tour exceed my already high expectations. His knowledge was exhaustive and he presented it with enthusiasm and animation. Ben brought out such things as Beaux Art, the fascinating history of the City Hall and City Office Building, the origins on the subway system and its political context as well as many other fascinating factoids. The tour was an adventure that got more exciting literally and figuratively at every stop. Ben was welcoming of comments from all the tour group. He also welcomed information about other subway systems, such as Boston and Montreal. This experience makes me look forward to doing future NYC tours.
Great tour for history buffs or those new to the subway system We absolutely loved this tour! AJ was a fantastic guide - so enthusiastic and engaging - he was an absolute delight. Loved hearing the history of the subway system itself and all the little things he pointed out to look for as we continued to use the subway during our NYC trip. Riding through the remnants of City Hall station at the end was the coolest!
Interesting tour to understand how NY became an accessible hub The level of detail is quite amazing, and the story is quite interesting, particularly to understand the subway in connection to the city (like how transportation hubs emerged, other trials like the vacuum train, etc.). The tour spends quite some time above ground, but there's really a lot of explaining to do, and it's a pity that the actual City Hall station is closed for visits. Plus, the New York subway is so incredibly noisy (more modern systems are way quieter) that it's difficult to follow the guide when in the station. It one could ask for the moon, I'd suggest using headphones for that part of the tour. Other than that, it was very nice!
Plus Justin was a super engaged person who stayed talking with us after the tour, and walked some of us to town afterwards. These little things also make a great difference!
While Justin didn’t come for the tour, the guide was amazing with a passion towards subways and metro systems across the globe. He was funny and witty. I enjoyed the tour and learned new things about the NYC subway system. I will definitely recommend
This was such an interesting and informational tour! Our tour guide, Rain, was very passionate about sharing the secrets and history. He was kind, witty, and inclusive of all attendees. I enjoyed learning about Old City Hall and getting a quick glimpse! If you’re fascinated by the NYC subway system this is the perfect experience for you. I highly recommend this tour!
Great tour! Rayn knows so much. It's really incredible to learn about all the history and details that you miss every day in the subways!
Fantastic tour for locals and tourists alike! My 10 year old and I had a fabulous time uncovering the secrets and incredible history of the subway. I’m a native New Yorker and my son is obsessed with the subway and we both learned so much! Our tour guide’s energy and passion were infectious. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, even locals.
The tour was very informational. I learned a lot about the history of the nyc subway, and the unique, preserved architecture and tiling in certain stations that I had never noticed before even after living here for 8 years. The hidden city half station at the end of the tour was pretty cool too.
Discover Brooklyn Subway History Overall a great Brooklyn subway tour, very knowledgeable tour guide Rayn was so sweet to answer all of our questions. Definitely would recommend!
Great tour for tourists and locals alike Our family (made up of born and raised New Yorkers + family visiting from abroad) enjoyed learning about the history of the subway and art references in various subway stations - we saw details we've missed on our commute. Our guide AJ was extremely knowledgable and friendly!
Great And Detailed Brooklyn Subway Tour Rayn is extremely knowledgeable about the subway system, having previously worked for the MTA. He is also an engaging speaker, making him the ideal tour guide. The best part of the tour (in my opinion) is looking down from the Smith-9 St station to the Gowanus Canal. You also ride many different train lines including the 4/5, D, G, F, and R, representing all three former subway companies, the IRT, BMT, and IND. You see some abandoned stations and tunnels, including Nevins St lower level. I look forward to joining another one of Rayn's tours!
Perfect city adventure for having fun while learning a ton This is an excellent tour and a great experience for both locals and visitors alike. As a lifelong Brooklynite, I learned a ton about the subway, the city, and the role of public infrastructure in our ever-changing society. Our tour guide, Rayn, did a fantastic job — he was engaging, informative, and fun. His extensive and insightful knowledge really shined through as he adapted the route in real-time to the train schedule and participant questions/interests. My friends and I didn’t want the tour to end and will definitely be looking to join more of Rayn’s tours in the future.
Great intro to the NY Subway system. The tour guide was knowledgeable and personable; he remembered the names of the people in the tour group. There is a lot of standing around at first, which might be bothersome to some people. The tour also focussed primarily on the part of the subway around City Hall/Chambers Street - I was left wondering what exists in other parts of the system. I knew the City Hall station was off-limits, but the glimpse of it (unfortunately, with the "artistry" of the graffiti artists) was pretty cool.
If you love history and trains- great [email protected] Our tour guide AJ was wonderful. Great tour. Really makes you think about your surroundings more ....things you casually walk by on a daily basis and don't pay attention to. If you like history or trains/subway -DEFINITEL Y take the tour.
