Today, a new exhibit at the New York Transit Museum called “Album Tracks – Subway Record Covers” opens. Like the title suggests, it’s a collection of album cover art related to the New York subways and elevated system. Musicians throughout the twentieth century have used the New York City subway system as the backdrop for their album art. The curation includes covers like Simon & Garfunkel’s Wednesday Morning, 3AM, which PopSpotsNYC tracked down the location for, Billy Joel’s Turnstiles and more ranging from Broadway to early hip-hop.
With the arrival of the MTA Video Music Awards to Brooklyn for the first time on August 25th, Album Tracks also features a behind-the-scenes video of Michael Jackson’s music video “Bad,” that was filmed just near the Transit Museum at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station.
