Untapped Cities is excited to announce a brand new partnership with the New York Public Library and Untapped Cities Insiders, a partnership that will allow members to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the extensive library system is run and discover the wonderful treasures hidden within the special collections of its many unique branches. Throughout the year Insiders will have exclusive access to tours and events throughout the library system crafted by Untapped Cities and experts at the NYPL. Upcoming experiences will include curator-led visits to new exhibits at the The Library for the Performing Arts and Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a special look inside the collections of the iconic Stephen A. Schwarzman building on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, and behind-the-scenes tours of library facilities that are off-limits to the public.

To kick off the series, our first event on April 29th will be a visit to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building where guests will be shown a selection of highlights from the library’s vast historical collection of rare books and artifacts. After the presentation inside the Berg Room (a space usually reserved only for researchers), guests will have the opportunity to walk atop the catwalk inside the Rose Reading Room for a stunning view of the space, and get to see the book train in action. At the end of the tour guests are encouraged to sign up for their very own library card which unlocks access to all of the library’s amazing resources. You can join this free event and all upcoming Insider + NYPL events if you are an Untapped Cities Insider! Not an Insider yet? Become a member today to gain access to free behind-the-scenes tours and special New York City events all year long! Registration for the Stephen A. Schwazman Building tour will open on April 15th, 2019.
