On July 4th, “Lady Liberty’s Little Sister,” a replica of the Statue of Liberty currently residing in Paris, will be inaugurated at Ellis Island. Afterward, it will travel to Washington D.C., where it will be displayed at the French Ambassador’s Residence for Bastille Day. This sculpture’s move is in honor of the 135th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty’s journey across the Atlantic Ocean in pieces to the U.S. It is connected to a partnership between the Embassy of France in the U.S., the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers, and the shipping logistics company CMA CGM Group.

“The arrival of the new Lady Liberty will celebrate the most central value of the French-American partnership: freedom,” the press release reads. “The technological, artistic, and logistical challenges that had to be overcome to bring this new statue to America tell a modern tale of successful international cooperation.”
