Inside The 53rd St. Power Substation in NYC

On Saturday, I checked out the substation at 53rd Street and 8th Avenue, across from Roseland Ballroom for Open House New York. As a member of the Transit Museum, I get first dibs on cool tours like this and the inaccessible Old City Hall Subway Station. This substation was part of the original IRT subway line and was built in 1904. It's still in use and is currently undergoing a renovation.

Behind the Scenes: BRING TO LIGHT NYC

This Saturday is New York City’s first Bring to Light Nuit Blanche Art Festival, a block party of artists, performers and musicians amidst Greenpoint’s urban industrial backdrop of metal workshops and textile factories. In an urban takeover, artists will “create works that inhabit street corners, galleries, shops, rooftops, vacant lots and buildings.”

Fashion Week is Here!

Fashion Week will descend on Lincoln Center for the first time tomorrow, but the buzz is already in the air. The New York Times today reported on the battle for front row seats this year, but I once finagled my way into first and second row seats (now known as "Siberia") and even into shows I lacked tickets for by befriending the security guards. Be nice to them!
