It’s a shorter work week, but we couldn’t let you miss out on the best events available! Check these out:

Wednesday, February 19 – It’s Off Broadway Week, so until the 23rd,  you can get 2-for-1 tickets to shows at any of these “Off-Broadway” theaters. The Powerhouse Arena is hosting a book launch event with writers from The Best of McSweeney’s Internet TendencyVarious contributors will share some of the website’s funniest and most popular pieces.

Thursday, February 20 – Head on over to Trestle Gallery, where on view are various pieces from Judy Rifka’s Star Street collection, including 21st-century cave drawings! 

Friday, February 21 – Opening reception at Fort Useless in Bushwick for Frame of Reference, a photo/illustration exhibit by artists Mitchell King, Michela Buttignol and Ebru Yildi.

Saturday, February 22 – At the New Museum, the first US exhibition of sculpturist Pamel AlthamerThe Neighbors, is on view. He is predominantly known for the figurative sculptures he creates of himself, his family, and various other individuals collaborating within his community. Screening of We are the Best! as part of Film Comment’s Select 2014 series at Lincoln Center. The movie sketches musicians who use punk ideals to process the narrow thinking, variable parenting, inconsistent authority, and sexism they encounter in their lives.

Sunday, February 23 – Unreleased controversial documentary Transcend: 5 Black Artists by 5 Black Artists explores the issues you’re not supposed to talk about–here’s a post-brunch screening at Lightspace Studios complete with open bar!
