The third season of Billions, the financial criminal drama on Showtime, is now underway. In the first season, the cat and mouse game between Axe Capital head Bobby Axelrod (Damien Lewis) and US District Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) underwent some twist and turns, complicated by the fact that Rhoades’ wife Wendy is the resident psychiatrist at Axe Capital. With the second season, the drama was at a breaking point, culminating in Rhoades’ complicated maneuver to entrap Axelrod. In the third season, Axelrod has been compromised but is still fighting while Rhoades must face the consequences of his vengeance.
While a lot of the action does take place in the suburbs of New York, there are a plethora of New York City film locations in Billions. With a lot of the filming done close to the faces, sleuthing the locations on this show was particularly fun. We’ve discovered that there have been some inaccuracies in fan listed film locations we’ve seen elsewhere online, so consider this a definitive guide to film locations in Billions.
1. Roosevelt Hotel Ballroom
Season three opens with Rhoades and the Attorney General meeting in a hotel room. The AG wants Rhoades to take it easy on prosecuting Wall Street, which Rhoades is clearly uncomfortable with. After their face to face, the two head down to the ballroom of the Roosevelt Hotel, where members of the Rhoades’ team are waiting.
The Roosevelt Hotel, locate at 45 E 45th Street, is one of the hotels originally built for Grand Central’s Terminal City complex.
